For me, the Surf Athlete App is a great way to maintain some form of routine in my life. When I’m inland, it’s easy to jump in one of the programs or even pick up where I left off – in particular the Perfect Pop-Up and Surfskate programs! It’s so easy to dial everything in to your current needs and the carry-over to my surfing has been spectacular.

Your surfskate training is amazing!! It’s soooooo professional, teaches step by step, helps to enjoy enormously surfskate itself, but also transfer and apply new skills to the wingfoil. I’m not doing surfing, just wingfoil and connection with your surfskate is just impressive.
The most challenging point was to un-learn everything what I’ve learnt with other guys at other trainings – and start doing from scratch right way with you 🙂

The Surf Skate program is great because it offers the chance to get a feel for what it’s like using the techniques whilst moving. Taking to the bowl is the obvious next step.

The problem with learning how to surf is lack of repetition. Unless you’re lucky enough to have access to a wave pool then surf skating is the only logical solution to train. This app will break down the fundamentals and reveal some thing’s you’re probably doing wrong and you don’t even know it yet. Imagine having a surf skate coach literally in your pocket. The focus on the front stance, coffe cup, back arm was really what I was looking for from this program ..
I have already apply the content on my skating.
Although I knew some of this stuff already the details you put in are tremendous.
If I can suggest an improvement in the future to cover also people that just surf skate and my be interested in the program (believe me there are .. YouTube is full) is to add some more manoeuvres details like slide, snaps, sharp turn, turn holding the board. For me I still find sharp turn and slides quite difficult to execute .. are the concreate a couple of times at 43 years old did not help to bust my confidence.
Please keep it up with sharing the knowledge it is really appreciated.

You bring science to the surf instructions and always combine the why with the how!
I started surfing late in life and was not in a very good shape over all at that time. That has probably added a lot of bad habits to my technique…
I live in Sweden so the lack of continuous practice also does not help.
When I started “the perfect pop up” it brought a lot of insight that I wish I’ve had before.
The step up truly helps and the program has found and are dealing with some obvious mobility issues in my right hip flexor that explains a LOT of my problems. The good thing is that the mobility translates more or less directly in to my clean and jerk 🙂
I have really enjoyed the pop up program and your approach and that is why I purchased the surf skate program.
The surf skate program has once again brought your approach to a new area. The videos really explains why and how to surf skate if you want to bring your surfing to land and then your skating back in the water.
There are lots of videos out there about surf skate but I have not found anything e en close to this in regards to the full focus on the surf aspect.
The coffee cup helps me a lot and makes everything I do on the board smoother.

I should admit I am not a surfer and considering I live in the right heart of Europe, it is unlikely I will ever be one (except of a basic trial one day before I am too old : ). My love is kiteboarding (preferably sea version) and I am happy if I can spend at least a summer holiday at a kite spot.
I bought the Surf Skate Program for the following reasons:
To learn a bit more about surfing generally and also specifically in terms of the surfing body movement.
To learn surf skating to experience the surfing movements at least via street surfing (no matter where I am and what season it is).
The program met my expectations in terms of surfing basics and surfing movement. I am sure it also helped me improve my surf skate „style“ and effectiveness as well as the surfing-like experience during the training sessions. The program is well structured and its length is not intimidating so it is easy to jump in and follow the short lessons. On the other hand, I expected for the price paid more methodology/explanations in some videos (some were pretty short) and some more training drills and recommendations. Although I was aware that this is a surf skate program for surfers, I somehow thought I could learn a bit more about surf skating and its techniques… but this is probably the task for a surf skate-specific program. Apart of the program I felt inspired by the surf fitness resources you provide. It is a great tool to keep me fit not only for surfing but also for kiteboarding or generally for longevity purposes… so I will definitely include it into my fitness regime.
To conclude it, al in all nevertheless some of my reservations I am happy I purchased the program and learned new things as well as got inspired : )!

The Surf Skate program has been a proper godsend for me. I’ve been surfing on and off for years, but live inland so I’d probably consider myself a lower-intermediate surfer. This course has helped me to drop some rubbish habits and gain some solid habits for when I’m able to hit the waves. Each video is short enough to keep your attention but in-depth enough to let you fully understand what’s going on. Then I can then go out on my board and re-watch a video on the app if I need to. It’s been amazing to make everything muscle memory, which has properly helped me when I’ve gone back out in the waves.
Surfing aside, it’s helped me get comfortable skating vert again at the skate park. I’ve literally been out on my surf skate every day for the last month because of this course. Mega appreciate it, mate. Thanks again!

Un programme fantastique !
I’m a wrong side of 50 surfer, with a desk bound job Monday to Friday. The surf is 90 minutes away and I’m lucky if I get one surf a week. Improvement is tough with that limited amount of time in the water. I’d been stuck in intermediate (lower) land for some time, but always frothing keen to get out there and to improve my surfing.
The Surf Skate program has been fantastic. I’ve got my board (Carver). It was so long since I had been on a skateboard, but it’s been soooo much fun getting into it again. Three plus times a week I can get out on the Carver and practice, even for 30 minutes a session.
Cris I appreciate the depth of research and knowledge that has gone into the Surf Skate program with Clayton. It’s been incredible and made a huge difference for me. My balance, body position, pumping / speed generation and turns have all transferred into my surfing and improved. Being able to do a couple of turns and to feel that in the water has been amazing. i can honestly say that the surf skate program has helped my surfing a great deal. cris did not teach me how to skate, he helped me refine my body movements to improve my time in the water. it taught me that small variations in just a simple hand position can really enhance your surfing. i really cant thank cris enough and wish i would have found this 20 years ago. also, if you need help with your shoulders or hips you should check out his other programs as well. i haven’t ever moved this well in my life and i was a college athlete. get on it people!

I’ve used the surfskate videos to dial in my skating when I’m not able to surf. It’s a GREAT training tool and keeps you focused of using it for improving your surfing! Little things like the coffee cup trick and getting super low even though you don’t need to on a (surf)skateboard.
I wish I’d have had this when I first started with my surfskate. Would’ve saved me a lot of time and some skin! But even if you’re already surfskating proficiently the program will still teach you something.

I’ve been surfing like 12 active years and I have stopped surfing constantly because Sweden doesn’t have the best conditions. (Ecuador vs Sweden) Anyways, I have learned surf skate from scratch and this program has given me the best outcome. In summary – the content gets to the point … and it is full of absolute “ah ha” moments!
In detail – the Surfskate programme is well structured in short videos that give you a) the logic and b) the technique, in really direct and clear lessons. Its actually a bit annoying how obviously it all makes sense once you know it, but it’s a massive help that would have taken many hours to figure out; and has improved my surfskating significantly, and carries over to other boardsports. The attention to the small but important details of posture, technique, and most importantly – the WHY of each of the lessons has really helped improve my fundamentals. But… it will take practice, and while they give you a lot of good advice, they are pretty clear that YOU need to go out and get on your board and put the work in. However you are well taken care of and they give you the solid foundations that will boost your technique, confidence, and knowledge.

Bought this in December. Due to lockdown I’ve only been surfing a handful of times since then. My surfing has improved in the last 5 months about as much as it did in the last 2 years. It’s just such simple things that make the difference: coffee cup, front on, TLC. But without this programme I would never have been able to understand these terms and I highly doubt that my surfing would have improved. I would say I was a beginner/intermediate when I bought this (trying to get my first cutbacks in and learning to pump) and I had never skated before. I would now say I’m getting to grips with pumping and turning on the wave face and am definitely very confident on my surf skate. Lots of other cool tips in there too and in all honesty I’ve had so much fun just skating round the place. Also great for just getting those movement patterns ingrained in to the noggin.

I am 40 years old, I also had miniscus tear injury last October 2019 and I was very lucky enough that it was in the redzone area of the miniscus which it will heal itself. To be honest, I haven’t really followed the program more just watched the videos (though I aim to follow it all eventually sometime hopefully).
That said, it’s good! In all honesty, from just watching the theory and mindsurfing with it in mind I have noticed an improvement in my surfing (which I’m sure would be much greater if I actually followed the program).
Highly recommend. Chris will also answer questions if anything is unclear (usually in depth) and is very near nice to everyone!

Hi Chris,
Both my son and I went through the surfskate program. I found surfing later than most at around 40, so the only negative for me is that I wish I had known this then as opposed to now. The key for me is that the methodology and reasoning behind the various techniques and drills is explained well and really makes sense which gives you confidence.
So while my skate style is still better than my actual surfing, it seems you can teach an old dog new tricks, it just takes more time and perseverance

Hi Cris, my wife and 8yo daughter gave me your program for Christmas. Since we all surf together it was really a gift for all of us. We’re watching your program as a family…it’s awesome. We usually watch a video or two on the program before we hop on our boards and practice and critique each other on those drills. No more big effort pop ups. Just to land with feet in the wrong position and have to readjust on a critical part of the wave! It’s wild to get this knowledge after surfing nearly 30 years and see how much more fun we can have in the water by being intentional about our focus for that session. It is such a great asset for my coaching my daughter too. It’s crazy to go out in the water and see how few people really pay any attention to their technique. Glad we’re not in that camp any more. You’ve really got some incredible programs and have put a massive amount of work into putting them together. We appreciate that work, the improvements its already bringing to our surfing and even drawing us closer as a family.

I was told about Cris and his videos by a friend who was organising a trip to the Mentawais. Initially I just watched the YouTube strength training videos and the ‘packing for a trip to Indo’ which was really useful.
I randomly ran into Cris in the water at Macaroni’s a few days before the Corona virus forced us all home early.
When I was allowed back in the water back home, I purchased his program. His relaxed but quick walk up and totally focusing on looking down the line has massively improved my ability to get waves. I hardly ever fall on take off, and that definitely wasn’t the case in Indo
Once on the wave, the arm/leg/coffee cup positions, no poo man, twist, be like a sprinter feels great, brilliant advice.

Excellent travail
I´m generally not one for reviewing solely out of pure laziness, but I am delighted to make an exception for such a fantastic product. This program is the best investment I have made for my surfing – by far.
I am an intermediate surfer not spending nearly as much time in the water as I would like. I’ve perfected my paddling but maintained an awful technique on the wave face. This program has unlocked a path to progression in a way endless YouTubing just won’t. After a vast amount of ‘aha’ moments, I have a clear trajectory for taking my surfing to the next level. Excellent work. Just TAKE MY MONEY! Workout programs are also great.

This program has been extremely helpful in identifying and clearing out those bad habits (you know the ones that hinder progress only after realizing feeling it in the water) and also gaining body awareness. This brings out results in;giving confidence from land traininglooking for & feeling out the power zones of the wavegliding across and making the section or overtaking drop-in’sdrawing out turns with REAL lean and holding the rail engaged back to the power zone still high on the face
I feel these are the results from your program, your App updates keep it fresh.I can recommend the program as applying to real-life surfers all in the preparation in chasing and dialing in for THAT wave, whatever the conditions.

I get exactly what I wanted: how to start, how to progress, what to watch for, and which mistakes to avoid! Tried videos on Youtube but nothing was as structured as the Surf Skate program.
